What We Are Looking For:Professional experience in developing systems using modern C++; exposure to GLSL and scripting languages (e.g., Python) to support tooling and workflows. Demonstrated proficiency in profiling and optimizing performance across CPU, GPU, and memory, with the ability to confidently act on performance data. Hands-on experience with OpenGL and/or Vulkan, including building and debugging shader code in GLSL. Proficient in managing C++ build pipelines; familiarity with CMake is a plus. Proven expertise in test-driven development practices. Experience with Java is advantageous but not mandatory.

Location: Cambridge, UK – This position offers flexible working options, including predominantly remote work. Applicants should be based (or willing to relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance of our office to attend onsite as required.

The Game Engine team is tasked with enhancing and optimizing RuneTek, our versatile game engine, with a strong emphasis on rendering technologies that facilitate the development of our gaming platform.

As a vital member of the Game Engine Team, you will be instrumental in delivering sophisticated technical solutions, collaborating closely with our production and game development teams to help bring Jagex’s creative vision to life.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and maintain engine technology and shared libraries across core subsystems.
  • Deliver maintainable, production-ready C++ code that aligns with team standards and best practices.
  • Take ownership of features of moderate scope and complexity, from design to completion.
  • Contribute to the creation of scalable, robust, high-availability systems that support live games.
  • Identify and implement performance and workflow enhancements across engine technology.
  • Collaborate effectively within an agile team to deliver business and player value.
  • Assist in evaluating third-party and in-house solutions to determine the best fit.
  • Research and apply cutting-edge technologies to translate innovative ideas into actionable engine improvements.
