ResponsibilitiesLead the charge in ensuring functional safety throughout the design, development, and validation of infotainment and connected vehicle features, with a keen focus on the integrity of electrical and electronic systems and the interplay between software and hardware across the entire vehicle development lifecycle. Play a vital role in formulating feature requirements and offering functional safety expertise during feature definition, including identifying potential hazards from electrical malfunctions, display issues, and software/hardware interactions within infotainment systems. Conduct comprehensive vehicle-level Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and establish safety goals; execute safety analyses such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Mode, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA); create safety requirements utilizing the organization's requirements management systems. Design robust safety mechanisms, including redundancy architectures, hardware diagnostics, system health monitors, and fail-safe designs, ensuring that failures in infotainment systems do not compromise safety-critical vehicle functions or create driver distraction hazards. Develop thorough test cases to verify and validate safety mechanisms on LabCar and vehicle testing platforms, leveraging HiL environments to deliver comprehensive data and insights.

Role overview

The Functional Safety Engineer for Infotainment Systems plays a key role within the Functional Safety Engineering team. The focus is on ensuring the safety and reliability of infotainment and connected vehicle systems, including displays, Human-Machine Interface (HMI), telematics, and the intricate interactions between hardware and software in these areas.

What you will do

  • Analyze and address safety risks in infotainment systems, such as connectivity failures, display faults, and software errors.
  • Define safety requirements and validate systems using LabCar and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing setups.
  • Work hands-on to ensure that infotainment issues do not impact safety-critical vehicle functions or distract drivers.
  • Collaborate with HMI, Connectivity, and Platform teams, and coordinate with ADAS teams where infotainment and driver support features overlap.
