Position Overview: Functional Safety Engineer, Energy Storage

As a key player at Redwood Materials, you will be instrumental in fostering a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries. Your role will focus on transforming recycled materials into essential components for energy storage systems and next-generation battery technologies. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Functional Safety Engineer to ensure compliance with safety standards and facilitate the safe implementation of innovative energy storage systems (ESS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Leadership: Drive compliance initiatives for ESS functional safety with an emphasis on UL 1998 (Software in Programmable Components), UL 991 (Tests for Safety-Related Controls Utilizing Solid-State Devices), and UL 5500 (Remote Software Updates). Collaborate on certification efforts and ensure that product development aligns with functional safety standards.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards associated with energy storage systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into the design and development processes.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of safety analyses, compliance activities, and certification processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance product safety and reliability.
