About the job
Forward Deployed Software Engineer
At Swarm Aero, we are revolutionizing air power by developing the world's largest swarming UAV and the most adaptable network of swarming aircraft. Our ambitious team is rapidly advancing towards launching the first aircraft meticulously engineered for swarming, alongside cutting-edge Command & Control (C2) software that will coordinate swarms of thousands of diverse autonomous assets, enabling human operators to achieve extraordinary outcomes.
Our team is composed of seasoned professionals who have successfully created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense contracts worth billions, and designed over 30 innovative aircraft, drawing on experience from industry leaders such as Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.
About the Role:
We are on the lookout for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer who will play a pivotal role in bridging our engineering team with customer deployments. This is a software-centric position centered around integration, deployment automation, and ensuring the reliability of our Command and Control (C2) systems in a variety of production environments. Your primary focus will be on coding, debugging software issues, and developing tools, rather than piloting drones or managing hardware.
What You Will Do:
- Create deployment and integration tools to simplify the installation and configuration of our C2 software across various customer environments and hardware setups.
- Diagnose complex issues in distributed systems in the field by analyzing logs, network traffic, and system performance to swiftly resolve software failures.
- Develop automated test frameworks and scripts to verify software functionality, performance, and its integration with third-party systems.
- Write code on a daily basis to address specific customer integration challenges, establish monitoring solutions, and enhance deployment reliability.
- Collaborate both remotely and on-site with customers to comprehend their technical needs and translate them into effective software solutions.
- Travel to test sites (up to 75%) to guarantee successful software deployments, troubleshoot issues that arise, and collect requirements for engineering enhancements.
- Engage in drone operations during testing (Part 107 license required) to validate software functionality, serving as an engineer testing code rather than as a primary pilot.
This Role Is Ideal For You If:
- You are a software engineer eager to see your code deployed in high-stakes real-world scenarios.
- You excel at tackling complex integration and deployment challenges.
- You are comfortable being the technical authority in the field and possess a proactive attitude.
