About the job
Anduril Industries develops defense technology for the U. S. and allied countries, focusing on advanced autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking. Their systems use Lattice OS, which merges large data streams into a real-time 3D command and control platform. The team draws on experience from leading organizations to rethink how military systems are designed, built, and delivered.
Role overview
This Mechanical Design Engineer - Manufacturing role is based in Sydney and supports subsea robotics and ocean exploration projects. The team values open collaboration and encourages sharing ideas. The position centers on improving mechanical design and manufacturing processes, both on the production floor and through data-driven methods. Responsibilities include designing production fixtures to help technicians and working closely with other engineers to enhance manufacturability.
What you will do
- Design, prototype, and fabricate production equipment for manufacturing operations.
- Create tooling solutions for fabricating and assembling structural parts.
- Produce detailed mechanical designs using NX, including 3D models and 2D drawings that meet engineering standards.
- Select materials such as metals, polymers, and composites, considering mechanical needs, environmental exposure (including marine and corrosive environments), cost, and manufacturing techniques.
- Perform engineering calculations from first principles, including lifting analysis, beam and hook loading, and center of gravity assessments.
- Conduct FEA simulations to evaluate the structural and dynamic performance of parts before prototyping.
- Use FEA results to refine designs for weight, cost, and ease of manufacturing.
