Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:Act as a scientific authority on lightning physics, detection methods, and operational interpretation. Lead the development, assessment, and enhancement of lightning detection algorithms employing techniques like TOA, TDOA, interferometry, and hybrid approaches. Analyze RF signals across frequency bands relevant to lightning detection, focusing on waveform characterization, noise reduction, and signal classification. Collaborate with engineering teams on sensor design, RF front-end considerations, antenna design, placement, and calibration. Refine and develop signal processing pipelines for both real-time and post-processed lightning data. Design, test, and validate algorithms for lightning geolocation, flash clustering, classification (e.g., CG vs IC), and quality control. Evaluate network performance, detection efficiency, location accuracy, and timing precision using statistical methods. Integrate lightning data into forecasting, nowcasting, severe weather detection, and machine learning systems. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to scientists and engineers focusing on lightning systems. Document methodologies, assumptions, system limitations, and findings for stakeholders. Collaborate with product, operations, and research teams to translate scientific advancements into scalable, customer-facing solutions. Perform other duties as assigned.
