About the job
Skydio stands at the forefront of drone technology, recognized as the premier U. S. drone manufacturer and a global leader in autonomous flight. Our innovative team merges extensive knowledge in artificial intelligence with top-tier hardware and software development, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. We aim to empower a diverse range of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders and military personnel, enhancing their operational capabilities and safety.
About the Role:
We are seeking a pivotal member of our Data Team to drive Skydio's data-centric decision-making processes and product development. In this role, you will create systems that gather, transform, and store data from a vast fleet of autonomous drones, generating insights that enhance the intelligence, safety, and capabilities of our vehicles. You will have the chance to shape our data architecture, advocate for cutting-edge tools like Databricks and Palantir Foundry, and introduce AI-assisted analytics across the organization.
This role goes beyond traditional data positions; you will engage with complex challenges at the convergence of autonomy, AI, and large-scale telemetry, transforming raw flight data into actionable intelligence that impacts the real world!
Key Contributions:
Develop predictive models to anticipate hardware failures, such as propeller and battery issues, enabling proactive mitigation strategies.
Create 3D maps detailing cellular and radio connectivity within operational airspace, aiding customers in understanding safe and reliable flight zones for their drones.
Establish a company-wide data lakehouse that underpins analytics, dashboards, and machine learning — designed to be secure, scalable, and exceptionally fast.
Implement AI-driven data tools that empower every Skydio team member to explore data, derive insights, and construct pipelines independently.
Your Impact:
Design and expand the data infrastructure capable of ingesting live telemetry from thousands of autonomous drones, ensuring reliability and efficiency to support future flight intelligence advancements.
Enhance our Databricks and Palantir Foundry environments, enabling all Skydio employees to query data, define tasks, and build insightful dashboards — transforming raw telemetry into useful insights.
Build data systems that genuinely empower our products with data-driven capabilities, from predictive analytics to enhanced decision-making.
