About the job
10x Genomics seeks a Senior Data Platform Engineer to join the Data Platform team at its Pleasanton, California headquarters. This position centers on designing and building the Unified Data Platform (UDP), modernizing data infrastructure, and supporting the move to a scalable event-driven architecture. The work will lay the foundation for advanced AI and machine learning, as well as self-service analytics across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and implementation of the Single Source of Truth (SSOT) within the 10x Intelligent Data Ecosystem.
- Apply advanced software engineering practices to improve the scalability and reliability of data systems.
- Develop scalable, maintainable ETL and ELT solutions and data systems in a cloud-native environment.
- Systematically retire legacy middleware, such as Boomi, to reduce technical debt.
- Work closely with engineering and business partners to expand AI capabilities and make data more accessible through Natural Language Querying (NLQ).
What You Will Work On
- Architect and implement the canonical data layer and event-driven architecture using tools like Apache Iceberg and Kafka for real-time data flow.
- Design, build, and optimize high-volume, code-first data pipelines (real-time and batch) for systems including Salesforce, Oracle, and Workday.
- Establish Amazon S3 as the Single Source of Truth, applying Medallion Architecture principles (Silver and Gold layers) and supporting schema evolution.
- Develop, test, and maintain ELT pipelines and data models in Snowflake, using features such as Snowpipes, Streams, and Stored Procedures.
- Create the data presentation layer for self-service analytics, including NLQ interfaces integrated with generative AI technologies like Bedrock.
- Lead technical migrations of critical business domains from legacy systems to the new platform, addressing integration challenges.
- Define and enforce data governance, quality, and security standards across the Unified Data Platform.
- Collaborate with the Architecture Review Board to promote modern practices such as serverless computing and Domain-Driven Design.
- Oversee the full development lifecycle, from prototyping and design through deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence.
