Senior Motion Planning Engineer (Evergreen)
Join our innovative Motion Planning team at Motional, where your enthusiasm for robotics and software development will contribute to the advancement of production-ready autonomous vehicles. In this pivotal role, you will engage in groundbreaking research, devise sophisticated algorithms, and develop resilient software that enables safe, comfortable, and intuitive routing and motion for autonomous systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the R&D of advanced algorithms for motion planning in autonomous driving, with a focus on cutting-edge search-based and geometry-based techniques, and decision-making under uncertainty emphasizing probabilistic methods.
- Architect and seamlessly integrate complex motion planning and prediction algorithms, driving their assessment and enhancement for real-world applications.
- Design and implement a scalable, high-performance codebase that promotes rapid exploration, prototyping, and critical evaluation of innovative motion planning methodologies.
- Facilitate technical collaboration, ensuring smooth interfacing with perception and prediction components upstream and trajectory optimization, tracking, and control components downstream, to guarantee comprehensive system performance.
- Utilize your extensive software development and research knowledge to educate peers on best practices, nurturing a culture of technical excellence.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a product-focused engineering mindset, rigorous research, and advanced development initiatives.
Qualifications:
- A PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred; alternatively, a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience in robotics, ideally within the autonomous vehicle sector.
- Over 5 years of research experience in robotics and motion planning, with a demonstrated history of contributing to state-of-the-art solutions.
- At least 3 years of C++ software development experience, emphasizing the creation of high-performance and dependable systems.
- Proven experience in leading technical development on complex features from problem formulation through research, implementation, and deployment in a production environment.
- A strong desire for continuous learning, innovation, and a commitment to advancing autonomous driving technology.
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with probabilistic models, including but not limited to Gaussian mixture models.
