About BEAMBridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is dedicated to creating pathways for students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds to explore and excel in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering, and computer science.We ensure that BEAM students receive the same high-quality STEM preparation as their more affluent peers, emphasizing their success through a supportive program that spans from middle school to college graduation. Our curriculum is designed to foster a love for joyful, rigorous mathematics, build vibrant communities, and assist students with critical transitions such as college admissions and financial aid.Since our inception in 2011, BEAM has transformed from a modest summer program serving 17 students to a comprehensive national initiative supporting over 450 students at multiple summer sites and more than 600 students in year-round programming across New York City and Los Angeles. Our innovative BEAM National pilot now serves approximately 1,000 elementary-aged students in seven states, laying the groundwork for a new nationwide educational pathway. Our efforts have been validated by data showing that students who participated in our 7th-grade summer program are 1.3 times more likely to declare a STEM major compared to their peers. Position Summary: Instructional LeadershipAs the Academic Director, you will serve as the instructional leader for your designated BEAM site. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the implementation of high-quality, student-centered math instruction while fostering the professional growth of faculty members. You will play a key role in shaping the academic vision for your campus, guiding faculty development, and ensuring the daily enactment of BEAM's inquiry-based, student-centered math curriculum.BEAM Summer Away is a pivotal component of BEAM’s 10-year Pathway Program, delivering a transformative residential math experience that helps students evolve into effective problem solvers, engaged learners, and active community members. Key Responsibilities:Facilitate high-quality, inquiry-based math instruction aligned with BEAM’s mission and educational values.Coach, support, and assess faculty performance, including both Junior and Senior Faculty members.Encourage collaborative spaces that foster shared learning and instructional consistency.Align academic objectives with site operations in conjunction with site leadership.The Academic Director will work closely with the Site Director, Associate Site Director, Director of Student Life, and Guidance Counselor, forming a unified leadership team committed to student success.
