About the job
About BEAM
Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is committed to creating pathways for students from low-income, low-access backgrounds to thrive as scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and computer scientists.
We ensure BEAM students receive equal access to high-quality STEM preparation as their more affluent counterparts, investing significantly in their success through programming that spans from middle school to college graduation. Our focus lies in fostering a love for joyous, rigorous mathematics, building vibrant communities, and assisting students through key transitions such as college admissions and financial aid.
Since its inception in 2011 with just 17 students, BEAM has expanded into a robust year-round national program, currently serving over 450 students at six summer program sites and 600+ students in year-round programming across New York City and Los Angeles. Additionally, our BEAM National pilot program reaches around 1,000 elementary-aged students across seven states, thus establishing a new nationwide pathway inspired by our local initiatives. Our impact is evident: a recent study indicated that students who participated in our 7th-grade summer program were 1.3 times more likely to declare a STEM major compared to matched peers.
