Role Overview: Forward Deployed Engineer
The Forward Deployed Engineer leads customer deployments, working hands-on with healthcare practices to connect Ascertain’s AI agents to their existing systems. This role requires a mix of technical depth and direct customer engagement. Expect to work closely with billers, referral coordinators, practice administrators, and clinical teams to understand their processes and translate those needs into software solutions.
As the technical lead for each deployment, you will write production code, answer complex questions, and ensure successful integration and rollout for each customer.
What You Will Do
- Work with customer practices (remotely and on-site) to map workflows for prior authorization and referrals.
- Build and manage integrations between Ascertain’s agents and customer systems, including EHR APIs (Athena, eClinicalWorks, Epic), payer portals, fax, EDI, document intake, and other parts of the technology stack.
- Customize and improve our agent platform for each client, adjusting ontology, prompts, tools, guardrails, and escalation paths. Turn successful solutions into reusable models.
- Troubleshoot production issues across the stack: data, prompts, APIs, UI, and related human workflows.
- Represent engineering in customer meetings, bridging clinical operations and technical development. Make decisions about development, configuration, and project scope.
- Share findings with product and platform teams to help turn unique solutions into reusable features.
