About the job

About Fern
At Fern, we empower software companies to create exceptional API experiences. Our esteemed clientele includes industry giants such as Nvidia and Square, along with burgeoning AI innovators like ElevenLabs and OpenRouter.
As we advance, the future of API integrations will be predominantly handled by AI agents that require more than just marketing pages—they demand precisely typed schemas, structured endpoints, deterministic contracts, and documentation tailored for context windows.
Our compact yet highly skilled team comprises builders from leading tech firms like Google, Palantir, Amazon, and Uber, all collaborating in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Following our acquisition by Postman, we now serve 40 million users and 98% of the Fortune 500, while preserving the agility, speed, and ownership characteristic of a startup.
About the Role
As the Engineering Manager for Documentation at Fern, you will spearhead a dynamic team of engineers dedicated to developing core product features utilized by thousands of developers. You will blend hands-on technical guidance with people management to ensure successful execution, maintain quality standards, and foster team well-being, while remaining closely engaged with both code and clients.
In this role, you will oversee a team of 6-12 engineers, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, and it requires your presence at our Brooklyn office.
Lead and nurture a high-performing team: You will manage, mentor, and nurture a group of high-slope engineers as we expand. Setting clear expectations, providing technical feedback, and collaborating with Staff Engineers to establish technical direction will be crucial.
Be a technical leader, not just a people manager: This is a genuine player/coach position. You will review code, influence architectural decisions, and assist in making informed technical choices across the technology stack. You will also write code alongside the team, especially where challenges are greatest and stakes are highest.
