About the job
The Exploration Company develops Nyx, a modular and reusable orbital vehicle for cargo transport, in-orbit refueling, and future human missions. Located in Munich, the team works on advancing space technology and supporting complex operations in orbit. The Future Projects unit leads the way in creating new technologies and products, exploring prototypes and programs to expand Nyx and related systems.
Role overview
The Systems Engineer will play a key part in shaping next-generation space solutions. The focus is on designing new technologies, identifying stakeholders and use cases, and translating those needs into practical system architectures. This includes breaking down requirements, managing interfaces, and guiding technical trade-offs within a cross-functional engineering team. A significant part of the work will involve contributing to a robotic orbital station that supports in-space operations, satellite resupply, and robotic-assisted experiments.
What you will do
- Lead and carry out systems engineering tasks, such as:
- Conducting technical trade-offs and investigations at the system level
- Defining system-level requirements and ensuring they align with lower-level requirements
- Structuring systems through functional decomposition
- Supporting development planning activities
- Coordinating technical work across specialist engineers to keep schedules and tasks on track
- Facilitating co-engineering sessions with internal teams and external partners (setting agendas, prioritizing, decision-making, documenting, and tracking actions)
- Preparing and maintaining technical budgets, such as mass and power
- Helping organize technical reviews with customers, including defining and delivering data packs and managing Requirements Identification Documents (RIDs)
Location
This role is based in Munich, Germany.
