You will be responsible for designing the controls architecture for both outsourced tools and in-house automation, collaborating with integrators to realize these concepts. Your role will be hands-on from the specification phase through installation and production handoff, working in partnership with scientists, facilities teams, and vendors to ensure the entire lab operates as a cohesive unit.ResponsibilitiesEstablish the controls architecture, including states, alarms, naming conventions, and data flows to ensure systems are comprehensible and maintainable.Define platforms and components (PLC/robot controller, operator interface, motion, I/O, networks) that meet safety and performance criteria.Develop and implement bring-up plans, including I/O checks, sequence dry runs, and comprehensive workflow trials; ensure issues are resolved effectively.Create and deploy real-time supervisory dashboards (Ignition or equivalent).Introduce observability techniques: trending, diagnostics, alarm rationalization, and establish appropriate thresholds and responses.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls, or a related field.A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial automation within laboratory, pilot, or manufacturing environments.Practical experience with PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, and industrial network configurations.Familiarity with safety PLCs, functional safety validation, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.Proficient in scripting for testing and diagnostics (Python preferred) and practical electrical troubleshooting.Experience with SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition), data historians, and OPC UA or comparable data standards.
