Qualifications
RequirementsProficient in Maya rigging (full body and facial). A deep passion for crafting realistic CG characters with strong attention to detail. Experience in scripting (e.g., Python) with adherence to coding standards. Strong analytical and artistic abilities, complemented by creative problem-solving skills. Excellent teamwork, communication, and time management skills. Ability to produce technical documentation and present your work effectively (e.g., wiki, screen captures). Basic understanding of anatomy for bipeds and quadrupeds, including skeletons and muscles. Good grasp of constraints and deformers, along with their operational limitations. You Might Also HaveKnowledge of facial anatomy, realistic eye and mouth rigs, FACS breakdown. Experience in life drawing or organic modeling. Familiarity with dynamics (Maya Hair, nCloth, nParticle, etc.). Strong mathematical background, particularly in matrix mathematics and geometry algorithms.

About the Rigging Technical Director Role
The Rigging Technical Director will join the Melbourne Rigging team to build, maintain, and improve rigs for high-end VFX productions. This role works closely with Modellers and Animators to ensure rigs meet both artistic and technical needs in the studio’s pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine scripted rigs that align with animation and lighting requirements.
- Prototype and implement puppet (skeleton), body (deformer and muscle-based), or mechanical rigs for characters and assets.
- Troubleshoot rigging challenges, incorporating feedback from artists to improve performance and usability.
- Develop expertise in Framestore’s rigging toolkit and contribute to its ongoing improvement.
- Create tools that streamline animation workflows and enhance rig functionality.
- Follow established rigging standards and pipeline procedures.
- Deliver work on schedule while balancing production constraints.
