Strategy & Operations Manager (Logistics/Physical Goods) About OutpostGlobal commerce is complex. Without local entities, businesses struggle with conversion rates, increased costs, and compliance issues. Outpost transforms this process.Navigating international sales involves a labyrinth of tax regulations, payment methods, and operational challenges. Many brands hesitate or expand slowly and at great expense.Outpost serves as your adaptable back office for worldwide commerce. We initially focused on digital goods: tax compliance, being a merchant of record, and liability transfer. Now, we are developing the framework for cross-border commerce involving physical goods, which includes handling customs duties, calculating landed costs, managing DDP/DAP routing, import VAT, and clearance operations.Sell anything, anywhere—without compromise. The RoleThis is an Operations role designed for someone who comprehensively understands the intricacies of physical goods crossing borders. You can differentiate between customs, duties, tariffs, and import VAT. You recognize the challenges of HS classification at scale and have witnessed the pitfalls at clearance points. You know when DDP is more advantageous than DAP from a cost perspective. You will collaborate directly with the CEO to enhance Outpost's physical goods capabilities. We’ve established a solid foundation; now we need a visionary to advance our operations. This entails tackling complex challenges: ensuring landed cost accuracy at checkout, scaling HS classification, optimizing DDP routing logic, orchestrating carrier/broker relationships, and facilitating merchant onboarding. You will engage with various teams across the organization (Go-To-Market, product development, partnerships) as is typical in early-stage companies. We seek a candidate who has firsthand experience with these challenges, ideally within a cross-border platform, e-commerce merchant, or logistics firm. What You'll GetIndeed, the work is demanding, but you will have the opportunity to construct category-defining infrastructure from the ground up.Cross-border e-commerce is a vast market with inadequate tools. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the infrastructure for physical goods at Outpost, rather than merely operating an existing system. What You'll DoLanded Cost & CheckoutDevelop systems to accurately calculate duties, tariffs, and import taxes at checkout.Address HS classification at scale and assign correct codes for merchant product catalogs.Ensure accurate landed cost estimates are integrated into the checkout process.
