Role OverviewThe Senior Legal Officer is instrumental in advancing ILPA’s legal and policy initiatives concerning immigration, economic migration, asylum, and nationality law.Under the leadership of the Legal Director, this position involves in-depth legal and policy analysis, parliamentary engagement, project support, and delivering high-quality resources for ILPA members.This role will also involve collaboration with the Director of Strategic Litigation and Advice, particularly at the intersection of legal policy and strategic litigation, as well as the line management of the Legal Project Officer.Main Responsibilities1. Legal and Policy AnalysisConduct comprehensive analysis of immigration, economic migration, asylum, and nationality law and policy.Track legislative, case law, and policy developments, including secondary legislation and guidance.Draft briefings, updates, and summaries for members, trustees, and external stakeholders.Assist the Legal Director in formulating and executing ILPA’s legal strategy.2. Parliamentary EngagementSupport ILPA’s parliamentary efforts, including monitoring legislative activities.Draft responses for consultations, briefings, and evidence submissions.Facilitate engagement with parliamentarians, officials, peers, and external entities.Help organize meetings and briefings with MPs, peers, civil servants, and sector partners.Contribute to ILPA’s advocacy initiatives through both written and oral communication.3. Member Engagement and Sector SupportCommunicate with ILPA members to gather evidence and insights to shape policy positions.Support ILPA’s working groups by participating in meetings and advancing agreed actions.Manage member inquiries and direct issues to relevant working groups or colleagues.Encourage knowledge-sharing within the immigration and advice sector.4. Project DeliveryEnsure timely and quality delivery of project outputs.Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to funders as necessary.Share line management of the Legal Project Officer.5. Information Management and PublicationsMaintain organized and accessible legal and policy information.Collaborate with the Content and Digital Channels Manager to ensure clarity and accuracy in published legal content.6. Organizational ContributionFacilitate cross-team collaboration with training, content, and litigation colleagues.Participate in organizational planning and strategy discussions.
