We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our Business Rates team in London. In this role, you will evaluate commercial property assets using various valuation methods, including comparable rental, contractor's methods, and receipts and expenditure. Your responsibilities will include managing key client accounts, conducting quarterly meetings, and providing regular updates on appeal status, liabilities, and accrual reporting.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in utilizing CPI Inform Riverlake, Analyse business rates software, and Co-Star to record and submit essential information while compiling comparable evidence for negotiations. You will have a thorough understanding of the Check, Challenge, and Appeal framework for business rates in England, and you should be capable of independently initiating checks and submitting challenges on behalf of clients for the 2023 revaluation. Familiarity with recent developments in business rates, including the Non-Domestic Rating Bill 2022-23, consultations on empty rates relief, and transparency measures is crucial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a varied caseload of business rates, applying different valuation methods.
- Stay updated on the latest business rates case law and tribunal decisions to provide informed advice.
- Navigating the Check, Challenge, and Appeal Framework and understanding the Government Gateway for business rates challenges.
- Manage key client accounts and a designated rating caseload.
- Conduct client site inspections, requiring a comprehensive understanding of measuring commercial buildings for potential checks and relief eligibility.
- Advise clients on risk management and optimal outcomes.
- Negotiate confidently with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and maintain strong regional relationships with rating agents and commercial property professionals.
- Prepare analytical valuation reports and comprehensive challenge documents for submission to the VOA and tribunals.
- Possess experience and knowledge of attending valuation tribunals as an expert witness.
