Role Overview: Lead Composites Technician The Lead Composites Technician oversees the fabrication, assembly, and finishing of composite structures for unmanned defense systems. This role balances hands-on work in both rapid prototyping, where adaptability matters, and production builds, which require consistent, detail-oriented execution. The position also includes mentoring junior technicians and helping maintain high standards of quality and efficiency across the composites team. Main Responsibilities Carry out lay-up, bagging, curing, trimming, and finishing of composite parts using prepreg, wet layup, and resin infusion methods. Operate curing ovens and vacuum systems to solidify composite assemblies. Trim and machine cured composites to tight tolerances. Drill, bond, fasten, and assemble composite substructures into finished products. Conduct in-process inspections to verify tolerances and spot defects. Support prototype builds by adjusting techniques, working with engineers, and recording process insights. Facilitate production builds by following controlled work instructions, ensuring repeatability, and meeting takt time goals. Handle sensitive materials and keep workspaces clean to prevent contamination. Maintain tooling and fixtures, report wear, and contribute to ongoing process improvement. Follow safety, quality, and documentation requirements in line with defense hardware standards. Mentor junior technicians in composite fabrication methods and best practices.
