About the job
Anduril Industries builds advanced defense technologies that help strengthen U. S. and allied military capabilities. The company’s engineering teams create military systems that blend autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking. Lattice OS, Anduril’s AI-powered operating system, supports real-time, 3D command and control for complex missions.
The Thermal Engineering group drives rapid innovation and ensures the reliability of these advanced defense systems. Team members manage projects from early concepts through ground and flight testing, focusing on building resilient systems for demanding and contested environments.
Role overview
The Senior Thermal Engineer for Hypersonic Air Vehicles leads the thermal design and analysis of unmanned air vehicles across all stages of development. This position is based in Costa Mesa, California.
What you will do
- Lead thermal design and analysis for unmanned air vehicles from conceptual to detailed design phases.
- Define thermal system architectures and select materials suitable for extreme flight environments.
- Apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), and other engineering methods to evaluate thermal performance.
- Model material responses to combined thermal and mechanical stresses.
- Perform transient thermal analysis for dynamic mission scenarios.
- Plan, conduct, and interpret results from ground tests in specialized thermal environments.
- Coordinate and execute flight tests, then analyze post-flight thermal data.
- Use first principles and modeling tools such as MATLAB or Python to inform design choices.
- Collaborate with aerodynamics, structures, electrical, and systems engineers to develop integrated solutions.
- Present thermal status updates during formal reviews with internal teams and customers.
- Prepare detailed documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and technical reports.
