The Behavior Assistant plays a crucial role in fostering a positive learning environment for students with behavioral challenges. This position requires at least one year of experience in an educational setting, complemented by a minimum of 10 hours of training in behavior management and positive reinforcement strategies, as well as training in de-escalation techniques. The successful candidate will hold an active educational aide permit issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.Key Responsibilities:Support students in adhering to behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and achieving individualized education program (IEP) objectives.Provide targeted one-on-one or small group assistance to students demonstrating challenging behaviors.Employ reinforcement techniques, de-escalation methods, and positive behavior supports to address behavioral concerns effectively.Implement behavior strategies as directed by behavior specialists or school-based teams.Monitor, document, and evaluate student behavior and the effectiveness of interventions.Assist students during transitions, group activities, and other challenging situations.Collaborate with teachers to manage classroom behavior and cultivate a nurturing educational atmosphere.Exhibit effective behavior management techniques to teachers and support staff.Contribute to classroom-wide behavior management systems.Provide immediate assistance during behavioral crises, adhering to established safety protocols.Help maintain a calm and secure environment for all students and staff.Document student behavior and progress using the tools provided.Report significant observations and concerns to behavior specialists, educators, or administrative personnel.Participate in team meetings to offer insights and assist in behavior plan modifications.Engage in ongoing training on behavior management practices, de-escalation strategies, and other relevant topics.Stay updated on best practices for supporting students with behavioral needs.Work collaboratively with BCBAs, teachers, school counselors, and administrators to meet student requirements.Communicate effectively with parents and guardians as needed, under the guidance of the behavior team.Maintain professionalism and respect in all interactions with the school community.
