JTs Kia of Columbia - Greystone invites military veterans with mechanical experience to join as Automotive Technician Apprentices in Columbia, SC. This position is designed for veterans interested in starting a new career as automotive service technicians.
Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP)
The Kia VTAP, developed by Kia America, supports military veterans transitioning into the automotive field. Apprentices work full-time at a participating Kia dealership while completing a one-year, competency-based apprenticeship. Upon successful completion, apprentices earn Kia Service Technician certification.
This program is GI Bill® approved, allowing eligible veterans to receive a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) during the apprenticeship. VTAP provides training, tools, and resources to help apprentices build their skills as Kia technicians.
Role Overview
Automotive Technician Apprentices work closely with experienced technicians and service staff. The apprenticeship helps develop both technical knowledge and hands-on skills needed for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing Kia vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair Kia vehicles, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical systems.
- Conduct vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs using Kia procedures and equipment.
- Complete repair orders and warranty documentation according to Kia and dealership standards.
- Test drive vehicles and verify repair quality using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Communicate with service advisors and shop foremen to support a positive customer experience.
- Keep the workspace safe, organized, and efficient while following dealership safety protocols.
