AECOM is on the lookout for a talented and experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Data Center and Mission Critical team in the eastern region. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in the technology sector, particularly within mission critical and data center environments, and understand the specific demands for scale, speed, and reliability associated with these facilities. This role offers the flexibility of a remote work arrangement, allowing candidates to work from various locations across the U.S. where AECOM has offices. While the position is primarily remote, occasional travel may be necessary for client meetings, pivotal project milestones, on-site collaboration sessions, or other essential business functions. Such travel will be scheduled in advance and is expected to be infrequent.AECOM stands as a leader in the global data center consulting sector, boasting strong teams across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. In this position, you will collaborate with our international teams on high-profile, fast-paced data center projects for clients worldwide. This is a hands-on, client-facing role that presents opportunities for professional growth and advancement.Key Responsibilities:Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC System Design: Design and develop efficient Heat Rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers, taking into account factors like cooling requirements (air-cooled or direct fluid-cooled), associated cooling loads, future system flexibility, phased construction and operation, airflow management, humidity control, system redundancy, energy efficiency, and adherence to industry standards.Cooling System Selection: Choose suitable air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including fan wall units, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions based on the data center's cooling requirements and equipment criticality.Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Perform internal CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, analyze transient periods, identify hotspots, and ensure effective cooling throughout the data center. Conduct external CFD analyses on individual buildings or campus-wide designs, simulating interactions between various electrical and mechanical components. Prepare and analyze models to recommend design adjustments and enhance the performance of Heat rejection and HVAC systems.
