About the job
Join us in shaping the future of veterinary medicine!
At Epic Tails Veterinary Clinic, we are committed to investing in the next generation of veterinary professionals. Our DVM Student Externship/Preceptorship Program is designed to provide vital off-campus educational experiences that complement your veterinary curriculum and prepare you for a successful career in veterinary medicine.
Program Structure:
This flexible externship can last from two to eight weeks throughout the year, aligning with your college curriculum, though most are typically two to three weeks long. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
During your externship, you will work under veterinary supervision to enhance your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our dedicated veterinary team and engage in all aspects of patient care. A stipend of $250 per week will be provided.
Your Responsibilities:
As an extern, you will experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice. Under the guidance of your mentor, you will be involved in gathering patient histories, conducting physical examinations, formulating diagnostic and therapeutic plans, assisting in surgeries, managing medical cases, providing wellness care, and honing your client communication skills while maintaining accurate medical records (SOAPs) within the daily practice timeframe.
Ideal Candidates:
We seek enthusiastic and proactive extern students who are committed to upholding the professional and ethical standards of our clinic. We recommend that participants review the Veterinary Practice Act to understand the duties permissible under veterinary supervision and ensure compliance for the safety of both themselves and our practice.
As a member of our externship program, we expect professionalism in both appearance and conduct, in alignment with the expectations outlined in our employee handbook.
