Valard Construction LP is looking for a Procurement Specialist to join the Major Projects team in Calgary, Alberta. This position calls for someone with a sharp eye for detail, a collaborative approach, and a solid grasp of both strategic and operational procurement. The specialist will work closely with internal teams and vendors to support a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
Role overview
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Procurement Specialist helps shape and carry out procurement strategies for major projects. Responsibilities cover the full purchasing cycle, from creating purchase orders and processing receipts in JDE to tracking vendor rebates. Building strong vendor relationships and monitoring market trends are essential for maintaining supply chain reliability and cost efficiency.
What you will do
- Follow purchasing policies, ethical standards, and comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Track and report on procurement KPIs, such as cost savings, spend management, and supplier rationalization.
- Work with internal teams to assess and fulfill project-specific procurement needs.
- Support financial goals by monitoring and reporting on cost-saving initiatives.
- Manage purchase orders to meet both operational and project requirements.
- Accurately enter and reconcile receipts in JDE, keeping records up to date.
- Claim and reconcile vendor rebates to maximize cost recovery.
- Monitor market trends to inform procurement strategies and purchasing decisions.
- Apply best practices for procuring, storing, and distributing materials.
- Build and maintain positive, long-term relationships with vendors to ensure reliable supply, competitive pricing, and high service standards.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in strategic procurement, contract management, or category management.
- Experience managing RFPs and RFQs, including bid evaluation.
- Proficiency with JDE or similar ERP systems.
- Strong skills in strategic sourcing and negotiation.
Preferred skills
- Supply Chain Management (SCM) certification.
- Experience in an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environment.
- Knowledge of the Powerline and Electrical Construction sectors.
