Our unit offers general practice legal services to low-income individuals within the LGBTQ community and those living with HIV and AIDS. Areas of practice include anti-discrimination, eviction defense, government benefits, confidentiality issues, appeals for denied gender-affirming care, name and gender marker changes, identity document updates, and various other legal matters.Interns will collaborate closely with staff attorneys and clients, taking on responsibilities such as client interviews, legal research, drafting internal memos, preparing pleadings, engaging with local and state agencies, and representing clients in administrative hearings and city/state court. Interns will also participate in intake clinics at community organizations and represent our project at various outreach events, including Brooklyn Pride during the summer.
