About the job
The Observation Technician works full-time on the night shift at Luminis Health in Annapolis, MD. This role supports patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Clinical Coordinator. Daily tasks focus on assisting patients with routine activities, performing technical duties, and helping to create a safe, clean environment. Care is provided according to departmental guidelines and is adapted to meet the needs of each patient, regardless of age.
What you will do
- Assist patients of all ages, from children to older adults, using appropriate skills and understanding.
- Document care activities, including:
- Recording vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
- Measuring and tracking intake and output
- Displaying and maintaining accurate instruction and recording sheets in patient rooms
- Support patient comfort and safety by:
- Following national patient safety goals in daily work
- Keeping beds in the lowest position and using side rails when needed
- Ensuring safe transport for patients
- Making regular rounds to address needs promptly
- Responding to call lights within five minutes
- Applying protective devices as directed by licensed staff
- Checking equipment for safety before every use
- Using correct body mechanics during patient transfers
- Confirming patient identity before providing care
- Introducing patients to equipment and safety routines
- Making sure essential items are within each patient's reach
- Perform direct patient care treatments, using sound judgment and technical skill, and follow established protocols.
- Participate in shift reports and maintain clear communication with licensed staff.
