THE ROLE
As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VEG, you will play a vital role from day one, assisting your team in triaging patients, providing comfort to pet owners, and gaining hands-on experience in the field. You will be involved in the entire emergency care process, ensuring that you are well-prepared for a fulfilling career in veterinary medicine, whether you aim to become a certified technician or explore other pathways.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a warm welcome and support by triaging incoming patients to facilitate their care.
- Assist in treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians for anesthesia and sedation management.
- Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support care processes in various settings, from outpatient to inpatient areas.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Advance to more complex responsibilities, including anesthesia monitoring and patient care.
