The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking dedicated individuals for a rewarding law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff I. In this role, you will primarily work in our adult Detention Center, overseeing approximately 350 inmates. Your responsibilities will include managing inmate living units, enforcing discipline, responding to inmate requests, supervising daily activities, and resolving various issues. Beyond the Detention Center, your duties will extend to serving court papers, executing warrants, ensuring courtroom security, transporting prisoners, engaging with the community, and performing general law enforcement tasks throughout Alexandria.
All newly hired Deputy Sheriffs will commence their careers at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, working 12.5-hour shifts—either day or night—approximately 15 days each month, equating to 87.5 hours per pay period.
The starting salary for this position is $60,767.46, with additional built-in overtime for Detention Center deputies averaging over $6,000 annually.
