About the job

Location: Cambridge, UK – This role offers flexible working arrangements; however, candidates must either reside in or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of our Cambridge office for necessary onsite attendance.

This is a fixed-term contract lasting 22 months.

Are you a talented environment artist with a passion for crafting stylized, high-quality environments and efficient world-building workflows? As an Environment Artist for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world survival crafting game developed in Unreal Engine 5, you will play a crucial role in shaping an immersive and expansive game world. Your contributions to level art, props, and world building will enhance a stylized visual narrative that embraces exaggerated realism.

This hands-on position is ideal for a versatile environment artist, allowing you to work autonomously across various production areas, from asset creation to in-engine execution, while ensuring a cohesive and scalable world.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement top-tier environment assets spanning level art, props, and world building using Unreal Engine 5.
  • Develop modular kits and reusable assets to facilitate scalable open-world development.
  • Produce assets through modeling, texturing, and material creation that align with the project's unique visual style.
  • Work independently throughout the environment production process, from conceptualization to final in-engine integration.
  • Collaborate with art leads and external partners to guarantee outsourced content meets established quality and stylistic standards.
  • Adhere to established production pipelines, optimizing assets for performance in a vast, interconnected world.

Your Qualifications:

  • Robust experience in creating environment art for games utilizing Unreal Engine and industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, ZBrush, Substance).
  • Generalist skill set encompassing level art, prop creation, modeling, and texturing.
  • Experience with open-world or large-scale environments.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing stylized environments or exaggerated realism.
  • Familiarity with integrating and evaluating outsourced assets within a production workflow.
  • Knowledge of modular workflows and asset optimization for real-time environments.
  • Experience with lighting or supporting concept art is a plus.
