Qualifications

Technical / Professional Skills Bachelor's or Master's in Nanoscience, Biomedical, Optical, Electrical, or Physics Engineering (PhD preferred).6+ years of experience leading engineering or product development, preferably in medical devices, diagnostics, or life science instrumentation. Demonstrated success in building and managing multidisciplinary teams (hardware, software, data science, and life sciences) in dynamic environments. Proven ability to collaborate with clinical scientists, assay developers, and healthcare partners. Deep expertise in at least one core engineering area, alongside broad fluency in optics/photonics; exposure to AI/ML is a significant plus. Exceptional communication and program leadership skills; adept at engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with ISO 13485, IVDR, and UKCA standards in product development (ISO 15189 experience is desirable).

  • Technical & Site Leadership: Provide hands-on technical guidance while managing daily engineering operations; ensure alignment of engineering goals with company strategy and product vision.

  • Team Building & Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and motivate a high-performing, multidisciplinary team across hardware, software, optics/photonics, systems, and data—promoting innovation, accountability, and resilience.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical liaison with scientists and assay developers; convert clinical and biological requirements into robust engineering solutions.

  • Cross-Site Integration: Connect our UK and international teams - standardize practices, encourage knowledge sharing, and maintain aligned priorities.

  • Project Execution & Delivery: Lead projects from concept through verification and validation; establish milestones, allocate resources, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery of reliable systems.

  • Innovation & Resilience: Leverage startup experience to make pragmatic decisions; guide the team through iterations and challenges with a calm, data-informed approach.

  • Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Ensure engineering practices meet ISO 13485, ISO 15189, IVDR, and UKCA standards; collaborate closely with QA/RA on design controls and documentation.

This role is based in London and involves daily collaboration with teams in the UK and internationally.
