Role Overview: Emergency Veterinary Assistant

This Emergency Veterinary Assistant role at VEG in San Jose, CA, places team members at the heart of emergency care. From day one, assistants work closely with experienced veterinary professionals, support pet owners, and build hands-on skills in a busy emergency setting. The position offers a path for growth, whether aiming to become a credentialed technician or exploring veterinary emergency medicine further.

What You Will Do

  • Welcome and support incoming patients, help with triage, and guide families through the care process.
  • Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics such as bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
  • Work alongside licensed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
  • Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration as directed.
  • Support patient care from exam rooms to treatment areas.
  • Join patient rounds to help maintain continuity of care.
  • Receive training in CPR and work toward RECOVER Certified Rescuer status.
  • Grow into advanced responsibilities, including anesthesia monitoring.
