About the job

At SpaceX, we are driven by our mission to advance human exploration of space. Our focus is on developing cutting-edge technologies to enable human life on Mars and beyond.

Position: Electric Propulsion Engineer, Mechanical - Starlink

As a pivotal member of the Starlink electric propulsion team, you will be responsible for the comprehensive design, analysis, testing, construction, and operational lifecycle of propulsion hardware. This role involves overseeing crucial systems embedded within our satellites, collaborating with experts in plasma physics, avionics, and electrical engineering to innovate propulsion components such as thrusters, cathodes, regulators, and fluid feed systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Address intricate mechanical, thermal, magnetic, and fluid dynamics challenges associated with space-grade hardware essential for satellite mobility.
  • Lead the hardware design process from initial concept through to high-volume production and operational deployment within the Starlink constellation.
  • Engage closely with cross-functional teams including thermal, materials, electrical, mechanical, software, and GNC specialists.
  • Establish design parameters, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level enhancements. Execute rapid iterations on designs and analyses to influence high-level design decisions and product direction.
  • Implement holistic Design for Manufacturability (DFM) strategies to create refined designs emphasizing reduction in part counts, error-proofing during fabrication and integration, and consistent performance metrics.
  • Develop a streamlined product lifecycle from supply chain management to final integration, balancing cost, complexity, and quality, while partnering with teams to establish efficient in-house production capabilities.
  • Conduct vacuum chamber tests, performance assessments, and environmental validations to confirm analytical predictions and adherence to design specifications.
