Role Overview
The Director of Lab Operations will lead all aspects of the Platforms Validation lab at Etched’s San Jose facility. This role covers the full operational scope: from hardware intake and serialization, through equipment commissioning and lab maintenance, to supporting engineers during testing. The position manages workflow, coordinates board rework, oversees physical infrastructure, and supervises a skilled lab team. Close collaboration with the Head of Platform Validation Engineering is essential to keep lab operations aligned with engineering goals and project schedules.
What You Will Do
- Oversee hardware intake, serialization, and inventory management
- Coordinate and track rework processes for boards and components
- Maintain and improve the physical lab environment and infrastructure
- Commission and set up lab equipment as needed
- Supervise and support a team of lab staff
- Manage end-to-end workflow to ensure efficient testing and validation
- Work closely with engineering leadership to align lab operations with project timelines
What We’re Looking For
- Experience managing laboratory or technical infrastructure operations
- Background in junior management or team supervision
- Technical knowledge of hardware validation workflows
- Ability to interpret schematics and understand bring-up sequences
- Experience overseeing PCB rework activities
