About the job

Director of Avionics Engineering

Aetherflux is at the forefront of addressing the global energy crisis by creating the necessary infrastructure for reliable, space-based solar energy. Our elite team is tackling one of the most intricate engineering challenges of our time, dedicated to developing a groundbreaking power platform. We are revolutionizing how humanity powers, computes, and connects—from orbit to Earth.

Aetherflux is constructing the framework to energize and connect the burgeoning orbital economy. Our modular and scalable satellite systems harness sunlight in Low Earth Orbit, facilitating a variety of integrated applications: transmitting energy via infrared lasers (space-to-earth and space-to-space), powering advanced on-orbit computing clusters (GPU/TPU), and providing secure, high-bandwidth optical data transport.

Current energy and data systems are constrained by complex logistics and outdated infrastructures. Aetherflux is overcoming these hurdles by enabling direct, on-demand, secure, and scalable energy distribution and data processing from space, fundamentally transforming operations both in orbit and on Earth. This initiative supports the rapidly growing space industrial base, In-Space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) operations, as well as remote regions and mission-critical environments.

Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt, inspired by his father's contributions at NASA Langley Research Center, Baiju holds a B. S. in Physics and an M. S. in Mathematics from Stanford. He co-founded Robinhood, now a publicly traded company that has empowered over 20 million Americans to engage with the financial system.

Aetherflux has secured $90 million in funding from prominent investors including Index Ventures, Interlagos, Construct Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, and others.

This ambitious mission requires extraordinary talent. Our team boasts experience from industry leaders like SpaceX, Astranis, NASA, Anduril, and the U. S. Navy, and is located in San Carlos, CA. If you are eager to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to building a generational energy and infrastructure company, we invite you to apply.

The Role

We seek a Director of Avionics Engineering to spearhead the design, development, and integration of avionics systems across our spacecraft platform. This role will be responsible for the architecture and execution of avionics systems, including flight computers and essential interfaces that facilitate control, communication, and power management in orbit.

You will define systems that operate in real-time, safety-critical environments with stringent power, thermal, and radiation constraints, collaborating closely with hardware, integration, and software teams to deliver cutting-edge avionics solutions.

About Aetherflux

Aetherflux is pioneering the next generation of energy solutions by developing innovative infrastructure for space-based solar energy. Our mission is to transform how energy is generated and distributed, addressing critical global challenges with cutting-edge technology and a visionary team.
