1. A valid New York State Professional Engineer License.2. A minimum of six (6) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in one of the following fields: chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work. Out of these six years, at least two (2) years must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is committed to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all residents of New York City. With the responsibility of delivering over 1.1 billion gallons of top-notch drinking water daily, managing wastewater and stormwater, and curbing pollution from air, noise, and hazardous materials, DEP stands as the largest municipal water and wastewater utility in the nation, employing nearly 6,000 dedicated professionals. Our intricate water supply system features 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes, spread over a vast 2,000 square mile watershed that stretches 125 miles north and west of the city.

With approximately 150,000 catch basins, 114,000 fire hydrants, 90,000 valves, 14 gatehouses, 3 reservoirs, 68 groundwater wells, a 100 million gallon underground storage tank, and an expansive network of 7,000 miles of both sanitary sewers and water mains, the maintenance of these extensive infrastructures is managed by the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) within DEP.

In this pivotal role as the Deputy Chief of Construction Engineering, you will operate under the executive oversight of the Chief of Construction Engineering within the Division of Construction Management. You will have significant autonomy in decision-making while leading a team of 10 to 15 professionals, including licensed Professional Engineers. Your responsibilities will encompass the management of contracts exceeding $25 million for the installation, repair, and enhancement of New York City's water mains and sewer systems. You will establish and enforce policies to guarantee contract inspections and emergency repairs meet DEP standards and are effectively coordinated with various agencies, private utilities, and the public. Additionally, you will guide engineering efforts for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of water mains and sewers, ensuring all inspections, maintenance, and investigations conform to established specifications. You will advise the Chief on all matters related to Construction and Distribution Operations, contributing to the achievement of long-term objectives.
