To qualify for this position, candidates must hold a Professional/Vendor Certification in database administration. Additionally, one of the following educational and experience criteria must be met:A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, along with two years of full-time experience in database administration, covering aspects such as design, installation, troubleshooting, and security management. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent, combined with six years of full-time IT experience, including at least two years in database administration as described above. An equivalent combination of education and experience as outlined in options 1 or 2.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is at the forefront of public health initiatives, utilizing advanced technologies to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. We are currently seeking a dedicated Database Analyst to join our Bureau of IT Application and Platform Engineering. This role is open to both permanent candidates and those who qualify for the Open-Competitive Exam 3644 Certified IT Administrator (Database) within the filing period starting on 5/7/2026.

As a Database Analyst, you will play a crucial role in supporting our data-driven public health IT initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assisting the Director of Database Administration in planning, coordinating, and tracking database administration activities across both production and non-production SQL Server environments (SQL Server 2016 - 2022). You will be overseeing a large-scale enterprise database environment, comprising over 60 servers and more than 1,500 databases, ensuring operational stability and continuity of service.

Your duties will also involve acting as a liaison between DBA teams and various IT units, coordinating database change requests, managing backup and recovery activities, monitoring system performance, and supporting process improvements.
