About the Role
As a Data Scientist within the Infrastructure team, you will be instrumental in shaping the scalable framework that underpins OpenAI’s products and research initiatives. Operating one of the largest and most sophisticated compute fleets worldwide, your role is crucial in supporting millions of users and businesses. You will align metrics, planning, scalability, allocation, and efficiency of infrastructure to ensure measurable impact across the organization.
In this role, you will define foundational datasets for infrastructure resources, develop insightful metrics that inform key decisions, build forecasting and optimization models, and create source-of-truth dashboards and analytics that empower teams to enhance infrastructure utilization. You will collaborate closely with engineering, research, and product teams to help drive the infrastructure strategy that supports all OpenAI initiatives.
This position is based in San Francisco, CA, and follows a hybrid work model of three days in the office each week. We also provide relocation assistance for new team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain key datasets and metrics that accurately reflect infrastructure usage, efficiency, and growth.
Create forecasting and optimization models to enhance infrastructure planning and resource allocation.
Collaborate with engineering, research, and product teams to inform infrastructure strategies through data-driven insights.
Deliver clarity through dashboards and analyses that guide infrastructure decision-making across OpenAI.
You Will Excel in This Role If You Possess:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a quantitative position, adept at navigating complex, ambiguous environments, preferably within infrastructure, systems, or platform domains in high-growth companies or research organizations.
Proven experience in defining and operationalizing data-driven strategies and metrics.
