About the job

Waymo is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, dedicated to becoming the world's most trusted driver. Originating from the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo's mission centers on developing the Waymo Driver—The World’s Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility access while aiming to reduce the thousands of lives lost annually due to traffic accidents. The Waymo Driver is the backbone of Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hailing service and has the potential to be integrated across a variety of vehicle platforms and use cases. With over ten million trips completed and more than 100 million miles driven autonomously across 15+ U. S. states, Waymo is leading the charge toward safer roads.

As a critical element of scaling our ride-hailing service, rigorous performance evaluation of the Waymo Driver is essential in achieving our ambitious objectives. Our data scientists collaborate closely with engineering teams through every phase of the software development lifecycle, utilizing statistical models and crafting metrics to ensure the Waymo Driver adheres to our stringent safety, compliance, and service quality standards. The unique challenges posed by autonomous driving create a new paradigm for data science, where we not only analyze real-world data but also generate high-quality synthetic data through advanced simulation technologies, providing richer signals and tackling complex estimation and experimental design issues.

In this hybrid role, you will report to a Data Science Manager.
