Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).3+ years of experience in data engineering or data science, preferably within infrastructure, environmental, or urban development sectors. Proven experience in designing and delivering cloud-based data engineering solutions at scale. Advanced proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in data engineering (Python preferred; Scala, Java, or C# also advantageous). Strong SQL skills and a deep understanding of relational databases, non-relational stores, and data warehousing principles. Solid experience with data modeling methodologies (dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, data vault, etc.). Robust grounding in analytical workflows and data science activities (feature engineering, data preparation, exploratory analysis).

AECOM is on the lookout for a skilled Data Engineer to take a pivotal role in the design, delivery, and optimization of data platforms and solutions across diverse projects.

In the role of Data Engineer, you will manage various aspects of the data solution lifecycle, ensuring that all solutions comply with established quality metrics such as scalability, security, and resilience. You will be tasked with creating data-driven architectures that not only add value but also provide insights. Your contributions will directly enhance AECOM’s mission of delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients.

You will collaborate closely with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and cross-functional digital teams, supporting analytics use cases and occasionally engaging in light data science activities such as feature engineering, exploratory analysis, or model operationalization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop concepts through the solution lifecycle, ensuring scalability and optimization while keeping cost considerations in mind.
  • Manage end-to-end data processes, including ingestion, transformation, modeling, and integration across multiple external-facing projects.
  • Demonstrate that solutions have met client performance, quality, security, and governance expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional data teams to gather and clarify client requirements.

Quality, Governance & Operational Excellence:

  • Work alongside Data Analysts and Data Scientists to support analytical projects, contributing to tasks such as feature engineering and big data analysis.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and technical teams to ensure the seamless integration of data solutions within broader digital ecosystems.
  • Maintain best practices in data engineering, ensuring high code quality, testing, CI/CD, and documentation standards.
  • Adhere to project data governance controls, including metadata management, access controls, data lineage, PII protection, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop monitoring and alerting strategies for data solutions to maintain high availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex challenges across infrastructure, data solutions, and custom analytical products.

  • Continuously explore new cloud capabilities, data platforms, and modern data stack tools to foster innovation within the team.
