RequirementsPrevious experience in a similar role within the visual effects industry. Experience working on CG creature projects. Strong proficiency in Maya. Familiarity with various types of dynamic simulations, such as cloth, hair/fur, feathers, skin, and muscle. Proven experience in creating simulation rigs and setups for productions. Excellent problem-solving skills. Appreciation for both aesthetic and technical aspects of the role. Meticulous attention to detail. Strong work ethic and eagerness to contribute to both development and shot execution. Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Solid understanding of pipeline and workflow issues. Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across departments. Preferred Qualifications:Experience with programming/scripting (e.g., Mel, Python, and/or C++). Development of tools, scripts, and plugins to streamline workflows. Skills in Modelling and Rigging. Understanding of Maya constraints and deformers.

Role Overview

The Creature FX Technical Director plays a key part in bringing characters and creatures to life. This role focuses on dynamic simulations for elements such as clothing, hair, muscle, and skin, using a mix of established and proprietary tools. The work directly supports the creation of memorable, believable digital performances.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build simulation rigs for characters and creatures using Maya, nCloth, and in-house tools.
  • Run simulations on assigned shots and deliver final assets to the Lighting team.
  • Work closely with Modelling, Rigging, Animation, and Lighting departments throughout the creature pipeline.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of tools and workflows within the department.
  • Deliver work on schedule while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Communicate regularly with Production and Leads to stay aligned on project timelines and expectations.
