Qualifications6+ years of transactional experience in a television business/legal affairs department and/or an entertainment law firm. Law Degree/Qualified Solicitor or equivalent. In-depth knowledge of UK television industry customs, practices, agreements, contract law, and intellectual property rights. Familiarity with production clearance issues and expertise in copyright and trademark advisory. Robust understanding of guild and union agreements, contracts, and intellectual property law. Proven ability to manage and mentor team members over time. Strong attention to detail, project management, time management, long-term planning skills, and creative problem-solving capabilities. Exceptional writing and presentation skills, including effective verbal communication, negotiation skills, strong drafting abilities, and a proactive team-oriented attitude. Professional, capable of building strong relationships internally and externally, and comfortable interacting with all employee levels. Skilled at managing multiple competing priorities, adapting swiftly, thinking pragmatically, and being solutions-focused.

A24 is on the lookout for a proactive and innovative lawyer to bolster our expanding UK TV portfolio. We need a dealmaker with a strong entrepreneurial spirit who possesses extensive experience in UK television development, production, and distribution. This role is situated at our London office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize a high volume of television development and production agreements, including license contracts, producer agreements, writer contracts, director contracts, rights agreements, and talent contracts.
  • Oversee various aspects of scripted productions, collaborating with a diverse array of in-house teams (such as creative, production, finance) and external legal counsel.
  • Provide legal guidance on production issues, covering topics like chain of title, underlying rights, music clearance, defamation, insurance, and delivery obligations. Assist production teams with daily legal inquiries during production, balancing expediency, risk, and creative demands.
  • Act as a business liaison with talent agents, attorneys, broadcasters, and other essential collaborators.
  • Advise colleagues on strategic deal-making and a wide range of intricate legal matters.
  • Collaborate with business and legal executives to establish and implement best practices.
