Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, terminate, and maintain BMS/BAS controllers, field devices, sensors, actuators, and control panels, ensuring as-built documentation is up-to-date. Troubleshoot and resolve control faults in BMS, EPMS, and equipment-level systems using front-end software and field testing tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, and clamp meters. Configure and navigate BMS platforms (Ignition, Metasys, Niagara, EcoStruxure) for point mapping, alarm settings, setpoint adjustments, and basic graphical updates. Diagnose communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP), assist with PID loop tuning and trend analysis, and support integration across BMS, EPMS, DCIM, and equipment control systems. Conduct commissioning activities including point-to-point verification, loop calibration, and functional testing for both new installations and retrofits. Adhere to NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, site LOTO protocols, and change management processes, including MOPs and CMMS documentation.

Role overview

The Controls Technician supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and daily operation of building automation and control systems within a critical data center. This includes working with Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and equipment-level controls in a 24/7 environment. Collaboration with the Controls Engineer and Operations team is central to keeping systems reliable and efficient.

Key responsibilities

  • Install and maintain building automation and control systems for data center operations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with BMS, EPMS, PLC, and equipment controls
  • Operate and monitor control systems to ensure continuous uptime
  • Handle tasks such as wiring control panels, investigating alarms through BMS interfaces, and calibrating sensors on chillers
  • Work closely with the Controls Engineer and Operations team on system improvements and incident response
