Key ResponsibilitiesConduct preventive and corrective maintenance on BMS/BAS controllers, field devices, sensors, actuators, and control panels while ensuring precise as-built documentation. Identify and resolve BMS, EPMS, and equipment-level control faults using front-end software and field diagnostic tools such as multimeters and loop calibrators. Configure BMS platforms (Ignition, Metasys, Niagara, EcoStruxure) through point mapping, alarm setup, setpoint adjustments, and basic graphic updates. Assist in PLC/HMI troubleshooting, PID loop tuning, trend log analysis, and integration of BMS, EPMS, DCIM, and equipment control systems across BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP protocols. Perform commissioning tasks including point-to-point verification, loop calibration, and functional performance testing for new constructions and retrofit projects. Adhere strictly to NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.

Role Overview: Controls Engineer – Critical Facilities & Data Center Operations

Location: Buffalo, NY

This mid-level Controls Engineer position centers on the design, programming, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building automation and control systems within critical data center infrastructure. The role suits experienced controls technicians ready to move into engineering or early-career controls engineers who want to stay hands-on in the field.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Central Engineering and Operations teams to maintain continuous reliability of BMS (Building Management Systems), EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems), PLCs, and equipment-level controls in a 24/7 data center environment.
  • Support engineering activities, including developing control sequences, commissioning, integrating systems, and creating documentation.
  • Navigate BMS front-ends, calibrate field sensors, and program PLCs using detailed Sequences of Operations.
