Role Overview
At SumUp, we are seeking a motivated and experienced Business Development Manager to spearhead our efforts in driving new revenue by selling payment and comprehensive POS solutions to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the UK, with an emphasis on the hospitality sector.
This role is ideal for a confident new business hunter who excels in prospecting, identifying customer needs, delivering engaging demonstrations, and crafting compelling value propositions within a dynamic sales environment.
You will take full ownership of your territory, managing all aspects from lead generation to closing deals. We’re looking for an individual with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a deep sense of ownership.
Your Responsibilities
- Generate new business through active field prospecting, cold outreach, and local networking.
- Sell payment and POS solutions specifically tailored for SMB merchants, focusing primarily on the hospitality sector.
- Target established businesses with a typical monthly transaction volume (TPV) of £25k or more.
- Conduct structured discovery sessions to understand business operations and uncover sales opportunities.
- Deliver personalized product demonstrations showcasing our POS and payment solutions.
- Lead pricing discussions and close sales with a consultative, value-based approach.
- Manage your sales pipeline, forecasting, and activities according to SumUp's standards.
- Build and leverage referrals from your existing merchant base and local network.
Candidate Profile
- A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in B2B field sales, focusing on new business acquisition.
- Recent roles should primarily involve new business development.
- Demonstrated success in selling to SMB customers with territory-based selling experience.
- Experience in merchant services, payments, or POS solutions is highly desirable.
- Relevant experience in technical sales or adjacent sectors such as hospitality will also be considered.
- A genuine self-starter with a proactive attitude.
- A valid UK driving licence is required.
