Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED required. Two to three years of relevant experience or equivalent certification/trade experience. CFC Certification preferred, with a willingness to obtain as requested. Must possess engineering and trade licenses as mandated by local, state, or national regulations. Basic proficiency with laptop and smartphone applications for work orders and facility operations, along with fundamental skills in Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of fire and life safety equipment and procedures. Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service and effectively communicate with tenants, vendors, contractors, and team members. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Willingness to learn and develop professionally in building engineering.

The Building Engineer I plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of critical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. This position emphasizes the importance of performing routine maintenance tasks, promptly responding to tenant requests, and ensuring the safe operation of systems under the mentorship of senior engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections of building systems; address service requests such as heating/cooling issues, plumbing problems, and lighting repairs.
  • Diagnose minor equipment malfunctions and escalate more complex issues as necessary.
  • Replace light fixtures, filters, and other system components as required.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections and equipment performance.
  • Engage with tenants, contractors, and property managers while collaborating closely with senior engineers and technicians to ensure seamless building operations and resolve tenant concerns.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance tasks and oversee contractor work.
  • Perform property inspections to identify and document deficiencies.
  • Log equipment readings and verify that assigned building systems operate within established standards.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFC, and NFPA regulations; report safety hazards and participate in safety inspections.
  • Provide mentorship to junior technicians when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues, management, vendors, tenants, and client employees, ensuring that all relevant parties remain informed and updated.
  • Partner with senior engineers to enhance technical skills and engage in professional development opportunities for career advancement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
