Required Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED. Two to three years of relevant experience or equivalent certification/trade experience. CFC Certification is preferred; candidates must be willing to obtain it if requested; must hold necessary engineering and trade licenses as required by local, state, or national regulations. Basic proficiency with laptop and mobile applications for work order management and facility operations, along with fundamental skills in Microsoft Outlook. Familiarity with fire and life safety equipment and procedures. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and effectively communicate with tenants, vendors, contractors, and team members. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Building Engineer I at LPC supports the daily operation and maintenance of building systems in Cambridge, MA. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role focuses on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The position involves routine maintenance, responding to tenant requests, and helping ensure safe, efficient building operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and inspections of building systems.
  • Respond to service requests, including temperature adjustments, plumbing issues, and lighting repairs.
  • Diagnose minor equipment problems and escalate complex issues to senior staff as needed.
  • Replace light fixtures, filters, and other key components.
  • Keep accurate records of inspections and system performance.
  • Communicate clearly with tenants, contractors, and property managers to resolve concerns and coordinate activities.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and technicians to support smooth building operations.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks and oversee contractor work when required.
  • Conduct property inspections to identify and document deficiencies.
  • Record equipment readings to confirm compliance with operational standards.
  • Follow safety protocols, wear required PPE, and comply with OSHA, NEC, NFC, and NFPA regulations. Report hazards and participate in safety inspections.
  • Offer guidance to junior technicians when needed.
  • Communicate professionally in both verbal and written formats with teammates, leadership, vendors, tenants, and client employees.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to build technical skills and participate in professional development programs.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
