About the job
At SpaceX, we believe that the exploration of space is not just a dream, but a necessity for humanity's future. Our mission is to develop groundbreaking technologies that enable human life on Mars and beyond.
BACKEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER, GNC (STARLINK)
Join our innovative team at SpaceX, where we are utilizing our extensive experience in aerospace to deploy Starlink—the world's premier broadband internet system. As the largest satellite constellation globally, Starlink serves over 9 million users, providing fast and reliable internet access. We are responsible for designing, building, testing, and operating every component of the system—from satellites to consumer receivers and the software that integrates them all. We are only beginning to unlock Starlink's potential for global connectivity and are seeking top-tier engineers to enhance its impact on communities and businesses worldwide.
As a Backend Software Engineer in Starlink's Space Safety team, your expertise in distributed systems will be vital in developing mission-critical software to maintain the safety of low-Earth orbit. With an ambitious goal of over 100 launches in 2025 and more than 9,000 satellites in orbit, our operations require advanced automation for safe flight. You'll work on crucial areas such as collision avoidance, space situational awareness, and orbit determination tools to ensure our satellites navigate safely through debris and other spacecraft—from pre-launch to deorbit.
Our software engineers oversee the entire software lifecycle, from development to testing and ongoing support. We emphasize the importance of closing the feedback loop between software design and real-world outcomes. In this role, your contributions will have a significant and measurable impact on the world.
