Key ResponsibilitiesOversee the development of large-scale renewable energy projects from proposal to construction, including permitting, design, interconnection, approvals, contracting, financing, and handover to construction. Identify and implement innovative project development strategies to mitigate permitting risks, enhance development timelines, and increase project value. Conduct due diligence on development-stage projects and portfolio acquisitions, assessing and prioritizing opportunities based on various project metrics. Administer development services agreements with local and regional partners and manage relationships with stakeholders such as technical consultants, surveyors, and land professionals. Work with the Land Acquisition team to oversee land campaigns that ensure site control for generation and interconnection facilities.

The Associate, Project Development at Clearway Energy Group plays a key role in supporting and managing renewable energy projects throughout the Western U. S. Based in San Francisco, this position reports to the Director of Project Development and is part of a regional team dedicated to advancing solar, wind, and storage initiatives in California, Hawaii, and the Desert Southwest.

This role emphasizes collaboration. Associates partner with colleagues across Business Development, Origination, Engineering, Project Finance, and Construction, contributing at every stage from initial concept through commissioning and ongoing operations.

What you will do

  • Assist with the development and progression of solar, wind, and storage projects in the Western U. S.
  • Coordinate activities spanning siting, land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and construction.
  • Support regulatory and environmental permitting efforts.
  • Work closely with internal teams to help secure project financing and ensure successful delivery.
  • Engage with stakeholders from various disciplines to maintain project momentum.

Requirements

  • Experience in renewable energy project development.
  • Understanding of project siting, land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, transmission, and power marketing.
  • Familiarity with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) processes.
  • Background in supporting project financing.
  • Knowledge of CAISO and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) markets is highly desirable.
